Colorado Classic: Alex Howes wins Stage 2 as Taylor Eisenhart takes lead
By Velon Media Team , 12 Aug 2017

Taylor Eisenhart took the overall lead of the Colorado Classic after finishing second to Alex Howes in a two-man sprint on Stage 2.

Howes (Cannondale-Drapac) defeated Eisenhart (Holowesko-Citadel) by a bike length in Breckenridge, with Peter Stetina (Trek-Segafredo) finishing four seconds down in third place.

Howes received 10 bonus seconds for his win, but Eisenhart collected five bonus seconds at the day's intermediate sprints and then another six at the finish line.

With both riders having started the day on the same time, Eisenhart moves to the top of the general classification and is now one second ahead of second-placed Howes.

The race lead was a deserved reward for Eisenhart, who formed part of the day's initial two-man breakaway and was only caught by the chasing Howes and Stetina with just over 4km to go.

Eisenhart found the legs to attack again with 3km left and although he dropped Stetina, Howes managed to follow and went on to claim victory.

The four-day race continues on Saturday with a 130km third stage starting and finishing in Denver.

Earlier in the day, Sara Poidevin (Rally) claimed overall victory in the two-day women’s Colorado Classic by winning Stage 2 in dominant fashion.

The Canadian won solo by two minutes from runner-up Tayler Wiles (UnitedHealthcare) and 2’36” from third-placed Abigail Mickey (Colavita/Bianchi).
