DATA SYSTEM ASSISTANT MANAGER (FREELANCE)
Velon is owned by nine of the world’s top professional cycling teams and works with all World Tour and many Pro and Continental teams. Velon owns and manages some of the sport’s most popular content channels and has developed leading-edge technology for gathering live rider data from races for rider safety and fan engagement purposes.
We are now seeking a Data System Assistant Manager to support the Race Operation Team in the delivery of Velon’s Data System.
Launched at the Tour de Suisse in 2016, the system has been developed to deliver insights from professional cyclists and explanations into how races are won and lost. It creates the world’s most extensive pool of performance data in top-level sport, which is used in live broadcast coverage and online. The integrated SaVe module leverages this data, providing critical crash detection and precise location information to enhance race safety protocols.
How it works:
The Velon tracking device is paired with the power meter on the bike using Bluetooth technology
The device is securely fastened under the saddle inside a lightweight neoprene case
The device connects to the mobile phone network and constantly searches for the strongest provider
Data is sent to a purpose-built dashboard which shows rider and vehicle positions in real-time, delivering alerts when certain parameters such as sudden deceleration and/or deviation from the course are detected
Data is sent in real time for Velon’s experts to analyse and work with broadcasters to show on screen and our digital channels
The key data received from the devices is speed, power (expressed in watts) and cadence (pedal revolutions per minute)
The Assistant Manager would be responsible for the setup of the system for races, managing the device logistics and liaising with the operators at races.
