Giro d'Italia 2020: Dominant Demare wins again

Arnaud Demare timed his sprint to perfection to win Stage 6 of the Giro d’Italia – his second triumph of this year’s race.

The Groupama FDJ rider bided his time brilliantly in a technical, uphill finale which featured plenty of tight turns, but swept onto the finishing straight in an ideal position and then left his rivals in the dust as he powered towards the line.

Demare wrapped up his win with several bike lengths to spare ahead of Michael Matthews (Team Sunweb) and Fabio Felline (Astana).

Joao Almeida (Deceuninck – Quick-Step) was also present in a sizeable peloton who were awarded the same time as Demare which ensured he retained his 43-second lead over Pello Bilbao (Bahrain McLaren) at the top of the General Classification.

Demare’s victory meanwhile, ensured he jumped to the top of the Points Classification ahead of Peter Sagan (BORA-hansgrohe), who ended the stage in eighth position. Filippo Ganna (INEOS Grenadiers) also lived to fight another day in the King of the Mountains jersey by rolling home in the main bunch.

Here’s a recap of some of the standout rider data recorded from the race:
